Yuki Nakamura has spent years walking the causeway to Enoshima at every hour — predawn, midday, and under the lighthouse's rotating beam. This quartet recording distills that obsessive observation into six modal pieces that owe as much to Miles Davis's "Kind of Blue" as they do to the island's own acoustics. Nakamura's soprano saxophone circles above Haruki Sato's spare piano voicings, while the rhythm section keeps time like the measured swing of a lighthouse arc. Cool, deep, and patient.
